Strategic Plan

Strategic Plan Snapshot:

Department Statement of Vision and Vision-Driven Goals:
  • Our Graduates are Among the Best Prepared
    1. Implement the ABET 2000/SACS assessment processes and focus on continuous improvement of the undergraduate and graduate programs using a number of tools (e.g., Alumni and Educational Benchmarking (EBI) surveys and Capstone Design Project and MSEE/PhD Evaluation Instruments) and metrics.
    2. Develop and implement a plan for increasing the number of BSEE graduates that have had an internship/cooperative education experience or equivalent.
    3. Develop a proposal to the college and Academic Affairs for support of undergraduate students that enter national and international student design and student paper competitions.

  • Graduate Study and Research Programs are Regional and National Assets
    1. Increase annual external research contract/grant funding to about 1M$ per annum by identifying two high value focus areas and increasing marketing effectiveness and interaction with funding agencies and industry.
    2. Increase graduate student enrollment and financial support.
    3. Develop a plan for replacing faculty members that are retiring within the next 5 years that takes into account department research strengths and unique capabilities.

  • A Leader in Collaboration with Industry and Community
    1. Perform a workforce skills needs assessment analysis for South Florida in conjunction with industry and government agencies such as the American Electronics Association (AEA), Palm Beach County Business Development Board (PBC BDB), Broward County Association for Business Leadership in Education (ABLE), and Workforce One.
    2. Develop a plan for an integrated program that offers traditional classroom and Internet University courses, continuing education courses, certificate programs, short courses, seminars, etc. in response to the needs of industry and community.

  • A Leader in New Initiatives
    1. Reevaluate the Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering program proposal, rework, and submit to Academic Affairs and the Board of Trustees.
    2. Develop a plan for a new MS degree that integrates the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Business and Policy Studies.
    3. Work with industry and government to create an Action Plan for Regional Innovation Leadership that connects University expertise in Research and Development (R&D) and Inventive Thinking with the wealth of innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
