Message from the Chair
I want to thank you for visiting our website and your interest in the academic programs and research
opportunities available in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Electrical Engineering is a broad and
active field that has a great influence on everyday life. Electrical engineers have initiated and contributed
to the development of many important and diverse areas such as integrated electronics and photonics,
telecommunications systems and computer networks, control systems, computer hardware and software for
specialized applications, image processing and computer vision, automation and robotics, electrical power
generation and transmission systems, alternative energy systems, and bioengineering. The steady appearance o
f powerful new systems and methods makes the field exciting, and electrical engineers are more than ever sought
out and consulted for their knowledge; design and implementation of innovative, useful products; wealth creation
abilities; technological leadership; and world changing ideas.
The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) degree which is accredited by
the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Upon completion of the B.S.E.E. degree, our students
are in an ideal position to continue their studies toward graduate degrees in electrical engineering or bioengineering,
begin a career in industry, or enter a professional school in law or medicine. Given the national and international
renown of our faculty members, low student-to-faculty ratio, excellent laboratory facilities, and close relationship
with the industry and its needs through our Industry Medical Advisory Board, our graduates are fully prepared for a
variety of career paths.
The department has several specialized research laboratories in the fields of high performance Bioinformatics,
FCC-certified Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), RF and Microwaves, Advanced Signal Processing and Communications
and Biometrics and Secure Telecommunications.
I welcome you to explore the wide range of exciting educational and research opportunities offered by the
department. Should you decide on a career, advanced studies, or professional development in the electrical
engineering discipline, I hope that you will find a program to suit your needs among our offerings. On behalf
of all faculty and staff members, we welcome inquiries if you have any questions or would like additional information.
